The organisers of the World Poker Tour have announced that they have added 2 news stops to their already busy 2009 schedule. The Spanish WPT Championship will take place in Barcelona on June 24th and it will run for 6 days.

A new stop on the World Poker Tour will be in northern Cyprus.  The Cyprus event will run from September 6th to September 12th.

PokerStars have announced that they will be holding a charity poker tournament in aid of the crisis in Darfur, Sudan.  The poker tournament will be held  on April 27th and will be called the Ante Up For Africa Europe Celebrity Poker Tournament.

The winner will recieve a price package to the PokerStars European Poker Tour event in the carribbean in January.

All money raised will go to held the aid effort in Darfur Sudan.

The most exciting heads up event of the year was won this weekend when Huck Seed walked away with the NBC Heads Up Poker Championship.

Huck Seed beat off Vanessa Rousso to take the $500,000 first prize.  Seed is considered to be one the best heads up poker players out there and has already won a WSOP title in 1996.

The World Poker Tour WPT are entending their tentacles across the globe following the announcement that they will be taking one of their WPT poker events to exotic Morocco.

The inaugral WPT Marrakech event was announced yesterday by the WPT organisers and will take place at Morocco’s famous Casino de Marrakech for the next 3 years.

This years World Poker Tour Celebrity Invitational held at the Commerce Casino in downtown LA was a resounding success and raised $112,000 for the charity of choice, The Vine Group.

The event attracted some big names such as ER's
Mekhi Phifer, Danny Masterson, Benji Madden, Nicky Hilton and Ricki Lake.  Some poker pros like Chris "Jesus" Ferguson and Mike Matusow we also in attendence.

The poker tournament was eventually won by poker pro
Freddy Deeb who donated $34,000 of this $100,000 first prize to the charity.

The latest stage on the PokerStars European Poker Tour (EPT) took place in Deauville France last week. Germany's Moritz Kranich came out on top of a field of 645 players to take the first prize of €851,400.  The lucky resident of Hamburg qualified for the tournament after winning a qualifier on PokerStars.com.

On December 28th PokerStars entered the Guiness Book of World Records by hosting the worlds largest online poker tournament. The tournament attracted 35,000 players to the poker rooms in the $10-$1 buy-in event.

PokerStars held the previous records when they managed to handle 20,000 players simultaneous players last year. The eventual winner of this record breaking attempt was stan34powa who scooped the thirty thousand dollar first prize.
